Hi, I'm Rose Hills, and I'm the LGBT (Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay, Transexual) Officer on Pembroke's JPC.
Whether you're straight or gay, if you have an LBGT issue you want raised at a Welfare meeting or to the college, I'm here to do it. Much more important, however, is your day to day happiness.
Adjusting to university is hard; being LBGT can make it harder still. That's why you have a dedicated rep to provide extra support while you find your feet and help you stay anchored. Being LBGT at Cambridge can be exciting, but daunting too, especially if this is the time you decide to come out, so PLEASE don't hesitate to contact me. Even if you're not quite sure how you feel, or not yet ready to come out, speaking to someone confidentially might help. Equally, if you're straight and concerned about a friend or wondering what you can do to help, get in touch.
I can be contacted confidentially by email, or with a message in my pigeon hole, and am happy to meet students in college or elsewhere.
Come to me for technical information on sexual health, your rights, college policy etc. and informally for help and support on the emotional side of things. All communication is 100% confidential.
On the social side, there's the weekly gay night on Tuesdays at Revs and CUSU run socials in term-time. In addition, I will organise formal swaps with other colleges, according to demand, and am open to any other suggestions you may have. Sign up to Pembroke's LBGT mailing list for more info.
If you encounter homophobia in any form while at Cambridge (which, gladly, is unlikely) you can come to me and I'll help you take appropriate action.
If you're a prospective student and you'd like to talk things over before you apply, or come up, feel free to contact me by email. Pembroke is an equal opportunities college and welcomes everyone.
