Pembroke Poetry Society

Pembroke Poetry Society - Your friendly college poetry society for literary discussions and eating of cake.

The Pembroke Poetry Society (aka. Pem Soc) is an informal creative writing group that meets twice a term for relaxed but engaged discussions about poetry. People submit their poems anonymously via email/pidgeon hole by midday on the day of the meeting, then turn up in the evening. We harbour a carrot-rather-than-stick philosophy of motivation (in place of "carrot" just substitute "some form of fat and sugar") so there will always be free cake/biscuits and drinks provided at meetings.

This is not just a society for English students, but is open to anyone with an interest in poetry. We aim to keep discussions open and unpretentious, and try our best to prevent them from simply turning into practical criticism classes (tempting though this is for the hardcore English geeks amongst us...). Instead we try to focus on what makes creative writing work and why. We're open to people from all colleges, subjects and years, grads and undergrads alike, so please spread the word.
