3. Student Action in Bosnia
Want to make a difference by teaching English abroad?
Keen to explore amazing Eastern Europe?
If so, Student Action in Bosnia wants you for its annual placement. We will
be hand-picking six outstanding students to teach English in Tuzla,
Bosnia-Herzegovina in July 2008. The lucky six will live together in Tuzla,
and will teach for two weeks at Tuzla University's annual Summer School,
with the opportunity to travel around Eastern Europe after the teaching has
ended. This is an amazing chance to spend time in beautiful Bosnia whilst
making a difference to education in the region. This annual trip has never
failed to provide the chosen students with unforgettable experiences!
If you are interested, please email Ellie Ryan (er309) by 7th May for an
application form.

4. Fairtrade Formal & World Fair Trade Day
Saturday 10th May 2008
Once again, the catering department will be serving a delicious menu
using fair trade products wherever possible. Pembroke has spent a great
deal of time and money in becoming the second of only two Cambridge
colleges achieving Fair Trade Status, so please show your support and
gratitude by swiping in and enjoying a yummy meal!
It may be exam term, but a good meal and a couple of hours away from the
books will do you a world of good. And if exams aren't stopping you
drinking, once again I urge you to opt for fair trade wine to accompany the
meal (available from the bar or there's a wide range available from
Sainsbury's/off licences - mostly for very low prices!).
Last term we sold out 100 tickets and left a number of people disappointed,
so swipe in early to ensure your place!
Join the event and invite others at
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=15413531441 Look forward to seeing
you there!

5. Cafe Project Opening
Have you ever dreamt of a cafe that is open in the evenings, but which
is not centred around alcohol? A cafe that is affordable because it's
non-profit AND volunteer-run and which follows ethical principles in the
food and drink it serves? Where you can meet up with old friends, but
also meet new people from inside and outside the University? Where you
can stay for hours without feeling the pressure to consume? A cafe that
is also used as a forum for talks, discussions, as space for art
exhibitions, performances, book swapping, or a meeting place for
special interest groups? That is a space not only for you to visit, but
with which you can get involved?
Then you should be excited to hear that the cafe project is officially
opening at 6pm on Saturday 3rd May. The cafe is at 22 Jesus Lane and
will be open from 7-11pm 6 days a week, Monday-Saturday.
Please come to try our lovely soft drinks and cakes, to meet friends or
new people, to visit our special events, to read or just to relax!

6. Pembroke Ladies Tennis
Anyone interested in playing some friendly inter-collegiate tennis
matches? This year, Pembroke has a ladies team entered for both Cuppers
and League matches. For more information, email Jenny Harcourt (jlh73)

7. Wanted: Photos of Pembroke College
The JP website (http://www.pembroke-jp.co.uk/) looks a bit sparse to me,
and I'd like to put a few photos in there. If anyone has photos of bits
of Pembroke I'd love to have them.
I would especially like photos of Hall, Cafe Pem, the computer room, the
JP, Past Bops etc.
Thanks,
David (dn271)
