People & Planet will be holding a letter-writing session in the JP on
Thursday 31st from 8.30-9.30 to write to MPs about climate change. The bill
on tackling climate change is about to go through Parliament, so this is
our last chance to persuade MPs to support the creation of firm targets for
significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Please come along, it only
takes a few minutes to write a letter but enough of them could make a huge
impact!

involved in the many exciting climate change-related projects going on
in and around Cambridge. The conference will close with a speech by
Christine Zumkeller, former Coordinator of the UNFCCC Cooperative
Mechanisms Programme. This conference is the inaugural event of the

MPs to ask them to put pressure on the government to keep its promise of
Universal Access to AIDS treatment by 2010. A new three-year strategy for

our opportunity to call on the government to take key steps such as
removing trade barriers which mean that developing countries cannot afford
the medicines they need. Please come along to the JP on Thursday 7th
February from 7-8pm to write a letter and support this cause, or if you

8. Pirates of Penzance @ The Cambridge Arts Theatre

by W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan

Monday 11th February - Saturday 16th February at 7.45pm

Matinees on Thursday 14th and Saturday 16th at 2.30pm

The Cambridge University Gilbert and Sullivan Society return to Cambridge
Arts Theatre to dazzle you with a visually and musically stunning
performance of one of Gilbert and Sullivan’s most popular operettas, The
Pirates of Penzance. Remaining close to the spirit of Gilbert and Sullivan,
this production plays with the conventions of the many styles that
influenced the pair, including pantomime and opera, offering a fresh and
enjoyable take on an old favourite.

Frederic, a young pirate soon to be out of his indentures, falls in love
with Mabel, a ward of the Major General. But the path to true love never did
run smooth, and their adventure takes them through a world of hilarity with
larger-than-life Pirate Kings, dissembling Pirate Maids, and cowardly
Policemen.

The music of Pirates has delighted audiences for over a century, with
wonderfully memorable tunes (such as Mabel’s beautiful ‘Poor Wandering
One’), hilarious lyrics and vocal acrobatics: who could forget ‘I am the
very model of a modern Major General’? Performed, directed, choreographed
and conducted by the cream of Cambridge’s student entertainers, The Pirates
of Penzance is an exciting and fun-filled experience for everyone to enjoy.

To book tickets, please go to http://www.cambridgeartstheatre.com or call
the box office on 01223 503333.
