1. Show the world how amazing you are!
Even after your first week here (or years for you older students) I'm
sure you will all agree what an amazing place Pembroke is and how lucky
we all are to be here. Every day numerous tourists and visitors flock
through Pembroke Plodge to admire what we can call our home.
Most of you before you arrived here will have visited beforehand and
may
have even had a tour led by enthusiastic students desperate to show you
how great these collections of buildings (and the peole inside them)
really are. Now you are here and Pembroke, the University and myself
need your help. The only way we can encourage others to study here is
to
show them how fantastic it is. There are all sorts of things you can do
to help:
- volunteer to give a tour
- join me travelling around the country visiting schools
- go back to your local area/school and tell others of your
experiences here
There is never any ongoing commitment - you may only be able to spare
time to give a one hour tour all year (the chances are however that you
will enjoy it so much you'll be conducting monthly visits!). No-one
should worry that they do not know what to say/to do; I am always
available to take you around with me so you can see how to do it and
will teach you everything you will ever need to know.
I am Pembroke's Access Officer and my job is to ensure that EVERYONE
who
is able gets the opportunity to see what it is really like in Cambridge
- it does not matter what school you have been to, what job your
parents
do or whereabouts in the country you are from.
If you are even slightly interested in what work we do or would like to
get involved please just send me your name to - lm412@cam.ac.uk . We
are
holding a Freshers Squash in St Catharine's College, The Ramsden Room
between 4pm-6pm. Please come along and just see what you could get
involved with.
All of you are brilliant and inspirational people to have made it here
-
now is your chance to show this amazing place to everyone else who
could
come here.
With much love & happiness, Laura :)
