Hi all, short one this week. Don't forget that the newsletter is sent on
SUNDAY, so sending an entry on Monday for an event on Friday is just silly.

The Pembroke Poetry Society (PemSoc) will have its first meeting of the
year on Monday 22nd October at 20.00 in J4. Anyone in the college is
welcome to attend. The Society runs like this: people submit poems
anonymously to Peter Auger's pigeon hole by 12.00 on Monday, and then in
the evening a group of poets and non-poets meet to discuss items
submitted. It's a great chance for arts-orientated discussion, and a
unique opportunity for poets to receive objective feedback. For more
information contact paa31@cam.ac.uk .

Spring edition, featuring work by Laura Kilbride, Gloria Dawson and
Peter Augur.

above. If you would like to be involved on the committee and belong to

*Opportunities
*Dear All
We have a vacancy on the CU Law Society Committee for the position of
Consultant Communications Officer. Candidates will be competent in the
areas of web design, website management,
designing marketing materials (i.e. posters, tickets) and will either have
some experience of, or be willing to learn the use of the Joomla website
content management system. Experience in web and graphic design would be
preferred.
This role requires the candidate to work alongside the current
Communications Officer and the committee to update and maintain the
Society's website, work with the Comms Officer to manage the online
activities such as events sign up, and be available for the occasional
piece
of design work.
It is a fantastic opportunity to become involved in Cambridge's second
largest, and most ambitious, student society. The successful candidate
will
be a consultant member of the Committee, enjoying full committee benefits,
but not voting rights. Benefits include free stash, free and priority
tickets to events and Committee Socials (such as Paintballing next
weekend).
The position would be salaried at £150 per term, pro-rated, and you would
report directly to the President.
If you are interested in applying for this role, please send you CV to
Carlo
Taczalski cjpt2@cam.ac.uk by Friday 19th October
2007. Apply early as an appointment will be made as soon as a suitable
applicant is found. Best regards
Carlo

Volunteers Wanted for Paralympic Sailing Campaign
I am a disabled sailor hoping to compete in the 2012 Paralympics. The
RYA is paying for me to receive training on a regular basis, but I
cannot attend without the help of volunteers. If you fancy an all
expenses paid trip to Rutland Water this weekend, or want to find out
more, email ldlb2 or visit http://www.srcf.ucam.org/~ldlb2/lukesails/ -
no sailing experience needed, just enthusiasm.

CU ENTREPRENEURS £100 CHALLENGE
-- Deadline 23:59, Monday 29 October
Would you like to win £100 for 100 words? CU Entrepreneurs has 20 cash
prizes of £100 to give away, each for a summary of a business idea of
not more than 100 words. The challenge is to condense what you want to
say and get all the major points across in a single paragraph.
The £100 Challenge is what you make of it - the very start of something
big, or a quick way to pocket £100. Ultimately, CU Entrepreneurs is the
way to make your ideas happen. Since 1999 we have awarded over £320,000
in grants to 41 business ideas, which are now collectively valued at
over £42 million.
We have now extended our deadline by one week to 23:59, Monday 29
October, in light of requests from our members.
Please find more information and submit your ideas online at
.

The Parthenon Group- Strategy Consulting Workshop
Profits are increasing but the business is in trouble. The market is
changing on a monthly basis, some companies skyrocketing, others
sinking. Is the business model sustainable? How will the competitive
landscape change? What should the CEO do next? Before you answer,
remember that your fees (and bonus) are based on next year's profits.
We aim in this interactive workshop to challenge you to think through
the strategic questions that we receive from CEOs world-wide on a weekly
basis. What are the key questions to ask, how are they answered?
Audience: Those interested in learning more about a career in strategy
consulting
Location: Ramsden Room, St Catherine's College
Time: Friday 19th October (Week 3), 7-9pm
Application: Please send a short CV to cambridgeworkshop@parthenon.co.uk
Other chances to meet in Cambridge:
If you are unable to attend or wish to learn more about Parthenon,
please come and talk to us at the Consultancy Event or at our
presentation, 7pm, Friday 12th October, The Saltmarsh Room, Kings
College. www.parthenon.com
