Below are some of the JPC's policies
Following the recent incident at Selwyn Gardens, the JPC are urging the college to look into hostel security as a priority, and are seeking security improvements. We should also like to have a communal rooms in some of the hostels which are further from college, which would allow people to socialize without trekking all the way into college or disturbing their housemates constantly.
The JPC has coordinated with college to produce a new scheme of fines and punishments in Pembroke. This scheme, once implemented, will publish a "tariff" of fines, which is created by a committee including grad and undergrad representatives. This committee, with the student reps, will also work as an appeals committee (except in serious cases).
The JPC are seeking to have unreserved minutes of the meetings of college committees available freely for all college members to see, on a single, raven-protected website (e.g. the governing body, finance committee, buildings committee). At present, while we do have representation on these committees, what goes on behind the closed doors is opaque to most junior members. The University makes minutes of the meetings of the central bodies available online, so why can't the college do the same?
The JPC will be advertising the college's taxi scheme to junior members (particularly those in faraway hostels) during the 08-09 winter. We believe that no junior member, male or female, ought to be made to walk home if they feel that so doing is unsafe.
The JPC recognizes that food and bar prices have risen sharply this year, and it is actively seeking to find out the reasons behind this, and to find out whether a reduction can be negotiated. As a longer term scheme, it is looking at the feasibility of a student-run bar.
