Open Meetings

Open Meetings are the most important forum for discussion and decision making for the JP. It is really important that people come to these meetings and try and get involved in decision making.  We try to make them as interesting as possible.  You can dictate the agenda by submitting motions to us so we deal with your problems.

Timing of Open Meetings

The JP President is required to call at least two Open Meetings each term.  In the Michaelmas and Lent Terms, one Open meeting includes hustings for the JP Committee elections.  By tradition, this is normally the Sunday prior to the election on the Wednesday.  There is also normally an open meeting on the first Sunday of Full Term of the Academic Year.  This is normally the last Sunday of Freshers' Week. Open meetings may also be called by a majority of the JPC or by members of the Junior Parlour.  For members of the Junior Parlour to call a meeting, a resolution signed by twenty full members of the JP should be received by the President.  The Open Meeting will be called within 72 hours of the receipt of the resolution.

Motions for Open Meetings

We are always looking for motions from members of the JP for Open Meetings.  If you would like to propose a motion, either fill in the online form or email the President (jp-president@pem.cam.ac.uk).  If you would like some advice about writing a motion, email the President or look at CUSU's handy guide here.
